Hillary Clinton made a stop in San Francisco recently to speak to supporters at a breakfast fundraiser held at the Julia Morgan Ballroom (also known as the Merchant’s Exchange Building). Geoff & I were honored to be invited to take photographs of the event. We got up at 4:30am yesterday morning to be there by 6:30am to scope out the entrance and photograph Hillary’s arrival at 7:30am. Secret Service wouldn’t tell us which entrance Hillary would be using, so we positioned ourselves in 2 different locations, and we waited. I staked out the lobby, while Geoff was in the ballroom to capture Hillary’s entrance into the room. I stood there for over 45 minutes, simply waiting. And then, all at once, some motorcycle policemen passed by the front entrance, followed by several black SUV’s. Mere moments later, Hillary was stepping into the elevator, having quietly (and quickly) snuck in through a back entrance. It was surreal. After a warm welcome from Janet Riley, the building owner (along with her husband Clint) Hillary took the stage to wild applause. I’m really excited about the upcoming election later this year. Hopefully Obama will visit the Julia Morgan Ballroom later this year & we’ll get to photograph that as well!
